Marriage Proposal Anxiety: Panic Before Saying Yes

Answered 16 September 2026 at 8:57 pm PKT

This page explains how anxiety and panic can affect a marriage proposal decision, especially when you are under pressure to decide quickly. It offers practical ways to pause, understand what you want, ask for more time, and say no clearly.

I like this rishta proposal but panic when I think about finalising it

I have received a rishta proposal that seems good to me, but thinking about finalising it and moving forward gives me panic attacks. I feel pressured to decide within a few days, and I do not feel brave enough to say no if that is what I need to do.

Yes, this can happen even when the proposal seems right. Liking the proposal and fearing the next step are not contradictory; the 3–4 day pressure can put your body into alarm. A panic attack does not automatically mean “no,” but do not give a final answer while you are panicking.

Slow the decision down

Tell the family or the person contacting you, “I am not saying no. I need more time because I am very anxious and cannot decide properly under this pressure.” For a rishta, a reasonable family should give you enough time to think calmly.

When panic starts, pause the conversation, put both feet on the floor, and breathe out slowly until your body settles. Do not discuss yes or no in that
